00/01

Back into the breach steps Mat Stace (Secretary during the 98/99 season), taking over the presidency upon his return to student ways. Despite a late entry into the organisation of things, Freshers Faire went well, with around 85 people/mugs signing up. We were hoping to run a target range, but with a major rain storm the previous week (leading to THOSE floods), the ground was far too wet, and we decided not to sink someone else's kit!

This year the team has once again suffered, not being able to enter any tournaments, once again due to the club not having a kit budget, and the union unwilling to fund any tournaments. They seem to be of the view that to represent a university in a sport, at NATIONAL level - not student competitions - you should have to pay every last penny yourself.

The club days have been going ahead regularly - with a definite tend towards playing on Saturdays this season, as a lot more people seem to be unavailable on Sundays, maybe people enjoy watching Formula One too much?

As this is written, it is mid-May, and it seems for the third year running, there will be no new kit for the club. Plans are being made for next season however, as there is to be an inter-university championship during the summer of 2002. The club will be going about it's usual business of getting plastered, winning pub quizzes, and playing the odd days paintball. The team should be entering at least four tournaments, plus the inter-Uni-tourney.

Watch this space... Pompey Paintball is soon to be back on the map. With a vengeance.

01/02

Well here we are after another year. At the Freshers Faire we managed to sign up 132 members! which is a 10 year record if i am not mistaken. This has made us the second largest club in the University! Well done to the drunken antics to sign up those lovely freshers... ;-p

This year the Club Presidency has gone to one Mr R(Rich) J Sutton, and the Vice presidency to Alex McKnight. Treasurer is Jon Pawley and the prez and i thought it a good idea to cart off some of the hard work onto a social secretry so we appointed Rich Webb to help organise and co-ordinate social gatherings along side the Vice prez.

The Prez this year has done a fine job of creating a team from a list of willing, rich volunters (rich...mmh). With there being members that wanted to take paintball to a new level, (unlike previous recent years) Rich S was able to re-create a team that plays tournament paintball (Sup-air) representing the university. The team has managed this at World, European and National levels this year which is quite an achievement by itself. Part of this successs was the fact that he managed to bore the Sports & Socities officer to tears with nagging for money. So we got entry fees and other bits paid for... (we are eternally grateful ;-p). I (Vice prez) have been left to organise rec days with the social sec, which we have done a number of. But as usual members weren't particularly enthusiastic about handing over money to come!! I also have been responsible for updateing the club/team website regularly through out the year, which with so much happening this year has meant a fair few hrs i can tell you. Check out the pic gallery for all of this years pics!

This year has been an exciting one for us all. The Team has been reborn and has entered 4 Temple open tournaments, the European Indoor Championships (which 9 members of the Team got University Purples (Colours) for, (Those that played)) The World Cup in Toulose in France in July and the Campaign Cup in London (Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium). The Club attendance has been a little disappointing this year, but we have still managed two rec day trips to Skirmish Lasham.

For the remainder of the history here are parts of the club news and team results from the year starting with the most recent:

Club News:

On Wednesday 20th March at Langston Campus, members of the team were filmed for an article by Portsmouth TV. We set up some sup' air bunkers and did some running around for the cameras. We will be on TV on the 21st March at 3pm and there after during the day every hour!

CHECK OUT THE PICTURE GALLERY! THE TEAM IS IN THE PAPER!!

BBC South Today want to do an article on the Team as we are going to France in the Summer representing the University of Portsmouth!

DUE TO GEOCITIES CHANGING THERE WEB HOSTING FACILITIES, THIS WEBSITE WILL NOW BE HOSTED AT http://upsupball.netfirms.com

The pub crawl on the 1st March was our best yet, we all ended up in the union very pissed after having far too much blood in our alcohol systems!

I am proud to say that we are currently ranked well in the Paintballer.com 100 site ratings! Please keep voting for this site by clicking on the 'VOTE' pictures on the 3 main pages. Thanks for your support!

This year we have many exciting days planned, and lots of tournaments to play. Please e-mail social event ideas to (Rich, Social Secretary) or the club e-mail address. How about themed pub crawl? If you got a good idea then let him know!
This site was created by Mat Stace, Alex McKnight, and Luke Baker, as part of their degree course in Internet Technology. We wish them all the best of luck, and if this site is anything to go on, they should be in-line for well paid jobs when they graduate.

Team Results:

The TEMPLE Tournament on 7th April 2002. It was the best weather I have seen at the temple and we gave in return some very good play back. Nick Bach and Matt Brown played in this tourney, which helped us expand our regularly playing squad members. Our first game came to a draw, which we could have won if markers hadn't gone down! This was frustrating to the Team and so we went out and whipped the next game against " Skulls Young Guns"! This is our first 7 man win and a well deserved one at that, with a superb last minute run for the flag from Mat Stace to clinch the victory! After the mornings escapades we were up against harder teams in the afternoon, and we lost a few games. Our final results were; Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 4. We finished 5 Mid table. We are improving on previous Temple tourneys, and well... there is still a little room for increased winnings! (Shockwave here we come) Everyone put in lots of effort and were open to comments, which is helping to bring us up the rankings. We will be a team to be reckoned with!!!

The Open Tournament at the TEMPLE on 10th March 2002 was a superb display of how members of the team are improving greatly. We had many good games due to the gaining experience of the team. We now have players with their own markers to equip the team in such tournaments. There was video footage taken at the tourney (hopefully screen shots online soon), as we can then learn from our mistakes...and believe me, it doesn't take long to spot them!! The most memorable game for me was when it was three on one in our favour, and i moved up to the witches hat and my marker ran out of CO2, Lee moved up also after his mag went down , and leo's inferno was out of gas also. The player on the other team was in the corner back coke can. Their player was held there by us with no working markers! We found out later he only had 3 paintballs left, well thats enough for one each!! During this game, Jon Pawley managed a double mugging!...On his first Tourney!! WOW! Everyone put in 100% effort and by all accounts had a great day. We loaned some players to 'Team Overlord' during the day which let some of us have an insight into how other teams play.Well Done to all who took part, we didn't put ourselves to shame!!

The EUROPEAN INDOOR tournament was played by our crack team of paintballers, on the 9th & 10th of February. We had a training day in South wales before hand to get the team a bit more ready for the fun and games at Wolverhampton. On the Saturday we managed to eliminate 3 members of K2 on our first game and in another game hang one flag, with other games where we were taking out players too. We were all a little disappointed by our performance, but we had learnt valuable lessons. The Sunday was slightly different though, our team was improving with every game we played, and we WON a game during this session. (A far cry from the day before!). We didn't finish last so overall we are happy, as this was our major first event. Well done to all the team players!

The Team played an Open Tournament at the Temple on 25th November 2001. We managed to muster enough equipment for the tournament, as the union hasn't exactly been forthcoming with kit this year. Everyone enjoyed themselves and put in great effort. Many players showed a great deal of potential which bodes well for future events. Players gained valuable experience during the tournament which will help lift the team to higher divisions in time. The Team came in the top 10 of our group which is impressive for a first Tournament!

Well that kinda wraps up this year really, Freshers faire next year should be a cracker!! the Team aims to continue building on this years success with most members remaining in the club next year.
